SNAPSHOTS OF MY MUM
Mothers Day
From Het
Mum and Dad have always been busy – but if you need them they somehow will be
AVAILABLE
There was a time when a dog took a piece out of Dad…
the owner ran away leaving Dad injured.
Months later Mum happened upon
the dog owner and gave her just a little piece of her mind.
This was an occasion of
BOLDNESS
Mum’s had a lot of illness and physical pain. If you ask her how she is, she’ll be real but uncomplaining. This makes her
COURAGEOUS
Both Mum and Dad take their commitments seriously.
If they agree to something, you can be sure they’ll see it through.
This is
DEDICATION
It’s next to impossible to separatemany comments
about Mum and Dad. They are the closest I’ve seen toperfect at living
what it is to be a unit.
In life and in marriage this makesthem both together and both individually a great
EXAMPLE
When I wanted to leave school and go into my
apprenticeship, their initial answer was their need to pray. In all
things of life this has been true –even in the heady days of their own
courtship seeking the Lord for His willfirst.
Here we see them both
FAITH - FULL and FAITHFUL
The crustiest of people who would likely have gotten a rise out of me, have been won over or softened by Mums
GENTLENESS
Through 4 teenagers constantly bringing large numbers of large and hungry friends through the home,
Mum always showed welcome, grace and
HOSPITALITY
One of the reasons they won’t tellyou that has kept them so busy, is in practical service to others.
There have been times others have attempted to take
advantage of Mums servant heart but have not succeeded because she is
no pushover… being infused with God’s
INSIGHT
Perhaps at other times it may seemthe opposite… as though people have truly taken advantage.
But have they really taken advantagewhen through Mum or Dad they have seen people
who show them the hands and feet of
JESUS?
When I asked the children for a wordto describe Granma,
the first word offered was
KIND
Apart from hospitalisation – which isn’t exactly
willing – Mum and Dad have never willingly slept apart. On camps and
holidays - beds were shifted together, mattresses placed on the floor
or single beds found somehow roomy enough.
As much (or more) as ever they were, they arestill in
LOVE
In all things of life and love, faith and family Mum and Dad are great
MENTORS
On finding little bugs in a child’s bed once, quick
as a wink Mum scooped them up and stuck them in her shirt to see if
they would bite. This showed how unthinking, quick and genuine is her
concern for others
NEEDS
Mum is terrified of flying. This might have
something to do with having flown in a burning lightning-struck Cessna
over the mountains of New Guinea –yet she hopped on a plane to head to
Singapore for the wedding of one of the privileged extra’s who called
her ‘Mum’ for a season. This made her an
OVERCOMER
Mum would never ‘blow her ownbags’. That would go against the grainof her humility.
Even these words are probably embarrassing to her but she has well and truly earned every word of
PRAISE
In spiral written notes, dinner setunder the table and a variety of other ways Mum proves she’s just a little bit
QUIRKY
Growing up - Sunday after Sunday weneeded to be
sure and leave the house tidy because you “never knew” who might come
back for lunch after church.
Should a caller come at an unexpected time a scout
would be sent out the front to slowly bring the callerto the back door
giving a chance for a quick tidy.
Never once was anyone given thebrush off –
in welcome they were always
READY
There have been many circumstancesin life that have lead others to question and doubt God. In all these things we have seen
STEADFASTNESS
How? Because they built their life on the
TRUTH
This has made their trust in Him
UNWAVERING
So if the devils task is to make God’s people doubt
and fall away, this means Mum and Dad hold in their hands and hearts
ultimate
VICTORY
Which is the fulfilment of promise for the fear of the Lord
is the beginning of
WISDOM
X Y and Z
are too ridiculously hard so I’m giving them the flick.
So to finish I’ll simply say
THANKS MUM
for it all.
